What’s in it for me?

Today I am not only going to teach you the quickest, cheapest method to purchase a domain, URL, website, etc but I am going to give you the STRATEGY to using your domains to increase your revenue.

I will also show you how to avoid the unnecessary upsells and useless addons you don’t need.

Your goal should always be maximum ROI with minimal investment and that’s exactly what I’m going to teach you today.

In today’s internet driven economy, having a properly strategized domain name is essential for growth.

In fact, (through testing) I have found that having individual websites for each product or service you offer gives a higher ROI then having those products or services on sub-pages of a single domain.

This means some companies with a larger portfolio of products and/or services will need to have hundreds of domains.

The cost and complexity of managing all these domains can quickly become overwhelming.

Today I’m going to show you the easiest method to purchase a domain and get it setup quickly with minimum investment needed.

HACK ALERT: although the strategy of using domains in your business should be carefully thought out, the actual purchasing of said domains can and should be done by your team. If you are a business owner, I suggest carefully studying the next section (strategy) and then having a team member handle the purchase and setup. You can simply refer them to this article and have them follow the instructions.

Step 1: Strategy behind choosing a domain

This is the most important part of the entire process. I see far too many companies screw this up either because they spend too much time on it or concentrate on the wrong aspects.

The biggest thing you should takeaway from this training is that your domain can NEVER be too short. Seriously, if I could have only one letter domains I would, it has that much impact on revenue.

Long domains have been proven countless times to decrease conversions and therefor ROI.

With that in mind, I usually advise buying domains as a three pack.

Domain 1 should be your target brand name, keyword, phrase, etc spelled out in its entirety.

Example: DynastyDentalElectronicsManufacturing.com

Now obviously no one is going to ever type this out BUT you should always own the domain for both SEO and branding purposes.

Domain 1 should ALWAYS be a .com.

Because this first domain is extremely long we want to buy a second domain for marketing purposes.

Domain 2 should be short, catchy and easily remembered.

Example: DyanstyDentalEM.com

This is your primary domain aka where your website should be hosted.

You want it to be catchy, easily remembered but also contain your primary keywords or branding elements.

Domain 2 should ALWAYS be a .com.

This domain is still fairly long which is why we want to make our third and last domain as short as possible.

Domain 3 should be your shortest domain.

Example: DDEM.co

This domain is for billboards, advertisements and to be given over the phone or in person.

The goal is to make it something that people will remember and can quickly type into their phone or computer.

Notice that this domain is NOT a .com. The reason for that is almost all super short .coms are already taken. This means the likelihood that a .com is available with your desired brand elements is extremely slim.

Luckily for us, there are well over 50 different domain modifiers available (and growing) so you can usually find one somehow.

Usually .co, .net, .org or .info are the most popular but you can really use any that is available here so long as you get it as short as possible.

After you purchase your three domains, you can create individual websites on each domain OR you can simply forward Domain 1 (your full brand keyword) and Domain 3 (your super short domain) to Domain 2 (your primary domain).

This will make your online digital properties much easier to access and increase conversions.

Step 2: Purchasing your domains

After you pick your 3 domains, the next step is to actually purchase the domains.

Domains are purchased on a annual basis and cost usually $8 to $49 per year depending on what type of domain you are purchasing.

Recent testing has shown that Google ranks domains purchased for two or more years higher in the search engine so I highly advise investing into a domain long term.

To actually purchase your domain, I suggest two sources.

The most popular is Godaddy.

The runner up is NameCheap.

There are many other options but these two are the industry standards and safest bet to be available long term.

Both have easily accessible coupons (just simply search for “godaddy coupon” or “namecheap coupon”) and usually offer discounts for multi-year purchases.

Purchasing your domains is very easy, simply search for them using the search feature on either of the above two suggested domain registrars and add them to card.

The HARD part is avoiding all the unnecessary addons.

Seriously, you do not need to purchase a SINGLE add-on from either company, you just need the domain for now.

HACK ALERT: You don’t even need the free “WhoIsGuard” NameCheap offers automatically. In fact I uncheck this option because I have found that Google penalizes websites that hide this information. GoDaddy offers this as a paid add-on.

By “unchecking” the WhoIsGuard option, your information is publicly accessible.

To avoid spam advertising calls, emails and mailers, always put a unique phone number, name and address for your WhoIs information.

I go as far to setup a dedicated PO Box, Phone and Email JUST for my website’s WhoIs info to avoid this. My company WhoIs even has a “unique contact name” for our WhoIs so when someone calls asking for that person we know they got the information from the WhoIs database.

Step 3: Connecting your domain with your hosting and email

The last step after purchasing your new domains is to connect each one to a hosting account and setup email.

These next steps are extremely important so I have created individual trainings for each one (which I link to below). I highly suggest you have a dedicated team member or marketing company handle this for you as your time is better spent growing your company.
